This blue budgerigar, known here the United States as a parakeet, was painted in digital oils. This seems mysterious to many people, but it is quite simple. The software I use, along with a digital stylus, allows me to use tools that behave very similar to oils, without the mess. In some respects, this method has its benefits – you can undo your last mis-stroke and save multiple versions to see if your idea works out before committing it – but it has its own challenges as well. While this was created in the digital realm, it is not just a fancy Photoshop filter. Every stroke was placed by hand.
