My girl, my feathered child, my lifelong companion, my Ziggy. She’s 19 years of sassy vocabulary and smartaleck humor, of nuzzles and preening feathers, of learning to go with the flow and self-soothe without feather destruction. She’s an African Grey parrot, and she’s going to be with me till I die, because she will probably outlive me. We’ve spent most of my adult life together, and naturally she inspires me a great deal when it comes to painting. This is the first portrait I did of her, back when she was pretty young. It prompted a decade of painting almost nothing but parrots!
